As part of our Lutheran tradition, Messiah includes a large number of lay leaders in worship each and every Sunday. The Pastor presides over communion, and several volunteers assist each Sunday as well. The schedule of volunteers is found every month on page 7 of the Messiah Messenger, and is also mailed out as a postcard to each volunteer at the begining of the month.
Provides an opportunity for all members of the congregation to participate in the worship experience.
Readers - read the Old Testament, Psalm, and Epistle readings during the service each week. Their readings are mailed out to them at the beginning of the month so they have time to practice. Contact Rich Levy if you'd like to be a reader (847-823-6984).
Acolytes / Communion Assistants - Acolytes are chosen from our youth who have received communion, and one of their parents serve as communion assistant. The church office coordinates the Acolytes and Communion Assistants (847-823-6984).
Assisting Ministers - have a larger role in the service, assisting the Pastor with the liturgy. Assisting ministers are arranged by Diane Blanks (847-823-6984).
Projectionists - our service is projected on a screen, and someone runs the PowerPoint presentation during the service.
Ushers and Greeters - are in the narthex welcoming guests and passing out bulletins. Ushers are also responsible for collecting the offering, counting, and helping direct people during communion. The church office schedules our ushers and greeters (847-823-6984).
