Begining Wednesday, February 24th, we will have:
9:45 AM – 10:45 AM - Bible Study - Women in the Gospel of Luke, by Barbara E. Reid
This work is a commentary on the passages in the Gospel of Luke in which women figure prominently as characters and in the sayings of Jesus, including women of vision and spirit in the “infancy narrative,” the Galilean women who encounter Jesus, and the women empowered to serve.
Then ...
6:00 PM – Light Supper hosted by Messiah in the Fellowship Hall
7:00 PM – Holden Evening Prayer Service – a meditative vespers service with inspirational music from Holden Village, an ecumenical retreat in the Lutheran tradition
During the services, we will have a Bible Study on the Psalms in place of a sermon, using resources from A Long Obedience in the Same Direction: Discipleship in an Instant Society by Eugene Peterson. We will read, study, share and discuss the Songs of Ascent (Psalms 120-134) that were sung by pilgrims on their way up to worship in Jerusalem. In these songs, we will explore themes relevant to us as modern pilgrims, as we learn to grow in worship, service, joy, work, happiness, humility, community, and blessing.
The final Lenten study and worship will be Wednesday, March 24th.
